Leather Type Guide

STANDARD PLAIN COLOURED LEATHER - PIGMENTED

Known as pigmented leather, it will have a plain uniform colour with a smooth or dimpled skin surface.
This is the simplest type of leather to repair because of its plain colour.
Most of the damage that occurs on this type of leather is usually superficial to the coloured coating which exposes the natural leather when it becomes worn or damaged. You will find this type of leather in car leather interiors and most affordable high street store furniture, this type of leather is repairable.

CHESTERFIELD LEATHER

Chesterfields can be successfully restored using our Chesterfield restoration kit The colour on this leather surface is created by applying 2 colours which imitates a unique worn antiqued appearance. Our black tinted coloured aerosol is the traditional top colour for chesterfields when they begin to fade. Checkout our full range of chesterfield products

TWO TONE LEATHER
On more modern leather sofas you will see a slight mottled or darker printed effect over the whole surface. The colours on these types of leathers tend to wear off leaving a lighter brighter colour on the surface. Colour loss will require the colour being sprayed on the surface, our tinted aerosols are ideal.

SEMI ANILINE LEATHER

MAY BE REPAIRED IF THE PRODUCTS ARE USED SPARINGLY

This is a supple soft natural leather which is dyed through and sealed with a clear or coloured sealant.
This type of leather will have a natural smooth surface. Scars will occur naturally on this type of leather. The surface may absorb liquids after a few moments leaving a dark wet stain.
This type of leather also fades in sunlight.
Our aniline leather dyes are not suitable for restoring faded areas on this type of leather, professional restoration is required for application of extra strong dyes due to problematic absorbency levels on this type of leather. Our coloured tinted aerosols will improve the appearance.

PULL UP / ANILINE LEATHER

THE COLOUR CAN BE RESTORED - REPAIR KITS CANNOT BE USED ON THIS LEATHER

This is pure natural leather which is dyed with the addition of waxes or oils.
The surface of this leather may have a natural scratchy appearance & will fade & dry out very quickly if not maintained.
This leather is very absorbent and will absorb liquids immediately leaving a darker wet stain on the surface.
This leather must be maintained on a regular basis, if not, stains may look more obvious as colours fade.
Colour restoration will improve the general appearance immensely. We recommend the Buffalo Aniline Dye, Dye kit, or luxury leather care kit

BI-CAST LEATHER

NOT REPAIRABLE DUE TO ITS POLYURETHANE SURFACE

This type of leather furniture has a smooth texture with a high gloss finish which bonded to the surface, it is not supple to the touch and can suffer peeling problems.
