HOW TO FIX PEELING LEATHER

Peeling or flaky leather is a sign of delamination, it happens when the adhesion of the coloured leather coating fails, the leather sealant fails, or because the leather is contaminated from grease such as where the head rests.

Can it be fixed?
This is very much a grey area as there is no certainty to the longevity of the repair when fixing the peeling area.
The area may become contaminated again, or it can simply de-stablise again, we find there's a 50/50 success rate and well worth attempting.

Which Products Do I Need?
Gentle Leather Cleaner
Solvent Prep Cleaner
Leather Bonder

How to Fix It!

  1. Clean the area using the gentle leather cleaner, leave to dry
  2. Wipe the peeling edges in the direction they need to lie flat. The concept is the solvent within the cleaner gently melts the edges back to the surface.
  3. Apply the leather bonder in the same way, the bonder is a flexible liquid surface glue, it will glue down and stabilise the area.
  4. If there is any discolouration you will need apply out leather pigment paint to restore the colour, you will also need to seal the area  using our aerosol leather lacquer for extra durability.
