WHY RESTORING SCUFFED LEATHER IS IMPORTANT
Restoring scuffed leather is important for both aesthetic and functional reasons. Here's why:
1. Prevents Further Damage
Scuffs on the edges of a bag can dry out the leather because the protective coloured coating has been damaged.
Once the protective coloured finish is compromised, moisture and dirt can penetrate deeper, worsening the damage. This can weaken the surface making it more vulnerable to cracking, further damage, or peeling.
2. Preserves Appearance
Scuffed leather looks worn and neglected, the leather repair pens help replace the colour, even out the texture, and maintain its attractive looks.
3. Extends Lifespan
Leather that’s regularly maintained lasts much longer. Restoring scuffs helps extend the product’s usable life, saving money over time.
4. Maintains Value
For high-end items restoring scuffed leather helps retain resale value and overall worth.
6. Prevents Discoloration
Scuffs can expose the lighter or darker under-layer of leather, causing uneven color. Restoration helps blend and re-dye the area to match the original colour tone. In short, restoring scuffed leather isn’t just about looks—it's about protecting your investment and keeping the leather functional and beautiful for years.
Which Products Do I Need To Repair Scuffs
Leather Repair Pen
The pens are ideal for worn and scuffed edges where an item receives the most wear, but we don't recommend them to be used to restore colour on a flat larger panel.
Leather Repair Kit
Ideal for larger patches and damaged edges
HOW TO REPAIR CAT PLUCKS ON LEATHER FURNITURE
Repairing cat scratches on a leather sofa depends on the severity of the damage.
Here’s a step-by-step guide for light to moderate scratches (not deep gouges or torn leather):
Materials Needed
- Curved nail scissors
- Leather repair kit (You can purchase our repair kit here)
- Fine sandpaper (600–1000 grit)
Steps to Repair Minor to Moderate Scratches
1. Dust the surface and clean the Area. Dry with a clean towel.
2. Snip off the loose flesh plucked out from the surface using the nail scissors
If the scratches are raised, gently rub the area with very very fine sandpaper to smooth it.
Wipe away dust with a damp cloth.
3. Use Leather Repair Kit
Apply leather filler to deeper scratches using the spatula from the kit.
Let it dry completely (usually a few hours or per instructions).
Lightly sand the filled area for smoothness.
4. Apply Leather pigment
Apply in thin layers, letting each dry before the next (we have some great tips on our kits instructions)
Blend carefully to match surrounding leather.
5. Seal and protect using the protector within the kit
Prevent Future Scratches
- Trim your cat's nails regularly.
- Use a pet deterrent spray.
- Add a scratching post nearby.
- Use a sofa cover or pet throw when not in use.
