HOW TO RESTORE A FADED ANILINE SOFA

How to restore a faded aniline sofa?

First of all you need to check your sofa is an aniline leather, we do this by doing the wet wipe test:
  • Wet a cotton (fibre free) cloth and wring it out so its not dripping
  • Wipe evenly over the seat pad, and again on the back pad
  • If the moisture from the cloth soaks in easily and more or less evenly everywhere on the panel it indicates that your leather is very porous - Aniline leather is very porous
Now we've determined you have an aniline leather, the process in reviving the colour and condition is pretty simple:

  1. Clean the leather evenly over each panel - a simple firm wipe is all you need
  2. When the leather is dry apply the aniline leather dye gel restorer - again it only needs wiping on evenly
  3. When the leather is dry apply the intensive conditioner - again just wipe evenly over each leather panel
  4. When you have finished applying the conditioner go back to where you started and polish the leather using a cotton rag (an old pillowcase fabric is great for that)
