How to restore a leather steering wheel
To restore a cracked and faded leather steering wheel is an easy process with very good results.
Buffalo offers a kit specifically for a steering wheel that will totally renew the surface, colour and overall appearance.
The process is very simple using our kit:
- If the steering wheel is particularly cracked, rough or peeling, sand the areas first using a fine grade 180 grit “wet & dry” sandpaper used wet.
- Now thoroughly clean the area using warm soapy water or water based leather cleaner and the power pad we supply in our kit, or use a nail brush to remove all the dirt.
- Wipe over the whole area using the solvent cleaner to remove any dirt residue.
- Apply the Leather bonder using the cloth to provide extra adhesion and to prime the surface.
- Apply the Colour Repair Pigment using the sponge provided onto the whole leather steering wheel area
- After the restoration is completely dry apply the Buffalo repair protector to protect the restoration against skin contact which causes contamination on the leather surface.
